Kinini is more than a name—it means “this big thing right here,” and it represents a bold, community-driven vision in Rwanda’s coffee landscape. Founded by Jacquie Turner and Malcolm Clear, Kinini began as a dream to uplift rural communities through education and transformed into a groundbreaking coffee project built on partnership, equity, and quality. Located just north of Kigali, the Kinini cooperative includes hundreds of local, small lot farmers —85% of which are women — from Tumba and Mageragere villages, offering seedlings, training, and infrastructure in exchange for cherries. In just a few short years, this model produced stunning results: exceptional coffees, thriving communities, and a very first harvest that scored 87 points. This is one Kinini Cooperative coffee in a line-up we have offered at Zoka. The quality and consistency in cup are excellent so we return to buy green coffees from them again and again.
