This is a fully washed coffee - the cherries were pulped, then floated (ripe cherries sink). Then soaked for 12 to 24 hours before being skin dried and moved to raised beds for final drying over two to three weeks time. Fully washed coffees have multiple layers of the cherry fruit removed before drying begins.
Giakanja Coffee Farmers Society is a cooperative farm with 1,200 members - the oldest farming member is 86! Their processing mill was built in 1968. In 2017 and 2018, Giakanja paid the best premiums to its co-op members in all of Nyeri County.
