Zoka Coffee

El Salvador Malacara B

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the MALACARA brand has been recognized as one of the best coffees produced in El Salvador. In 1995, the farm was divided into three parts, one for each of member of the remaining Alvarez Meza family. With notes of sweet honeysuckle, and a tangerine/Riesling acidity, it is the incredible “B” fraction that we offer you in this new single origin. Five families have permanent residence on the farm, which guarantees employment for twenty year round positions, and approximately 100 more during harvest season. Coffee harvesters are compensated with wages that are 50% above the legal minimum wage of El Salvador. The Malacara B farm is also being diversified to include other crops such as avocado, prunes, raspberries and peaches that are sold at local markets and provide more opportunities for employment. Many native tree species still exist on the farm, which help to ensure the natural flora and fauna of the area remains intact. In 2011, MALACARA “B” won the Presidential Award at the Cup of Excellence® event, obtaining 90.83 points.

“Absolutely. AMAZING. COFFEE! Oh my gosh. The most fabulous coffee hands down. Plus, many of their staff are supremely knowledgeable about the bean and its mysteries.” — Joshua (5 Star Yelp.com Review)
