by: Erik EvensonThere's a great scene in a Simpsons episode where a teenaged Homer and Barney are listening to loud music when Abe, Homer's dad, walks in. "What's that racket?" Abe asks.
"It's called rockin' out," Barney says.
"You wouldn't know, dad," Homer says. "You're not with it."
Abe declares, "I used to be with it, but then they changed what 'it' was. Now what I'm with isn't it and what is it seems weird and scary to me."
"It" has changed many times since Zoka opened its doors about fifteen years ago, and although we've kept up, even led the charge, with the changes in the industry concerning coffee and coffee roasters, we admit it: we've been behind when it comes to getting the word out about Zoka. Websites, blogs, social networking? In the past, they have seemed weird and scary to us.
But no more.
You can now check out Zoka on both Facebook (zokacoffee) and Twitter (@zokacoffee). We will be tweeting and facebooking regularly as well as posting blogs right here on this site about all the happenings at Zoka. When we get a new coffee, try out a new product, or host an event, we'll get the word out to you through the wonders of the world wide web.
Consider us with it.
Respect the brew.

I liked you better when you weren't "with it". Facebook pages and Twitter is all sizzle and no steak. I give you my business because you make good coffee, not good chit chat.
@brenday I agree, seriously Zoka, get with it. You don't need all these gimmicks to get people to buy your coffee. Focus on keeping your customers happy and your coffee excellent. What happened to the 2008 Coffee Roaster of the year?
Huh! Not being able to do both, good coffee and 'getting with it', according to these two isn't a possibility. I'm guessing they're the Abe Simpson type. Staying current is a part of doing business, live with it.
Good post Erik.
Zoka roasts and serves excellent coffee indeed, and for that reason alone, I think it's appropriate for Zoka to leverage Twitter and Facebook, continuing the coffee conversation online.
In fact, when coffeehouses emerged in London during the mid 1600
It's hard for me, sometimes, to take that deep, dark dive into the world of modern tech. It's hard for me at this very moment, in fact. But what I love about Facebook and Twitter becoming a part of Zoka is the fun factor. It's serious work to maintain quality and service in this amazing coffee community. So, while I greatly appreciate, and even prefer, paddling against the waves of society, we've got to have fun with the modern world, too! Playing Marbles gets old. Go Twitter. (at and arms length, that is... there's still a little non-conformist left in this old gal.)
